HEELS MAKE ME CRAZY
Here she comes walking, that sound is clicking my way
She’s got shoes that’ll make your head spin
Could be Choos, Rossi, or Vivier
Heels make me crazy
Heels make me insane
Heels make me crazy
They’ll take your breath away
Oh no, now she’s talkin’...
To me? Can’t hear what she says
All I’m thinking about is those shoes
And what they’re doing to my head
Heels make me crazy
They get me all wound up
Heels make me crazy
Every single day
She’s got too many shoes
And yet she can’t get enough
She got lady peeps, suedes, Louis Vuitton
Valentino, and St. Laurent
Heels make me crazy
Heels make me insane
Heels make me crazy
Every single day
No one can save her from her shoes
But that’s all right with me
She’s got me under her spell but there’s...
No place I’d rather be
Heels make me crazy
Heels make me insane
Heels make me crazy
And I like it that way
In spring 2020, the world was shut down. “Sex In The City” was popular, as many people were binging on streaming series. Podcasts were also becoming very trendy, helping people pass the time in lockdown. I learned about a podcast – exclusively about high heeled shoes – that had millions of followers; the podcaster would simply review a few pairs of shoes for each episode, and I was respectfully surprised at the passion for the topic. Around this time I was working from home, exeriencing a break from my daily routine inside the Prudential Mall in Boston: a higher-end mall including many stores with luxury shoe brands.
Inspired by the revelation of the high-heels podcast, the world’s obsession with Carrie Bradshaw, and my experiences from the mall, the simple, fun lyrics and melody for this song came out of me in about 10 minutes. I sent a demo along to Graham Duval who overhauled the drums. I had been thinking for a while of something that would give Joe Knecht an opportunity to arrange guitars, so the final version was mostly Joe layering his trademark metal on multiple guitar tracks. Paris Troy (bass) was a friend from the Prudential Mall, and someone I had jammed with from time to time. We recorded the bass in a conference room in the mall. Justin Sheriff completed the final mix and master. This was one of the first videos for Valud Productions, as Graham incorporated a fun vibe. It was a very low budget production and as you can see from the video, we were not taking ourselves too seriously!
